That is the best cheese bite EVER

Last night Slim and I went to a Banana Republic sales event. It was awesome! They had passed hors d'Ĺ“uvres and white wine. Wine + tasty treats + 30% off sale = happy girls! We had a lot of fun.
There was a DJ!
Slim made friends!
It was busy! Plus there was a weird guy who led Slim away at one point to ask her to participate in some shady discount deal. Ha!
During the sale, I picked up a few birthday items for someone whose birthday is on March 20th. I hope he doesn't look in his closet at what it is.
Afterwards, we headed to the Quattro Cafe. This is a huge fave of mine and Mr. Pie's. As usual, I was not disappointed (totally made up for the last two restaurants!).
Slim had the divine lobster ravioli. It's not even on the menu. You have to ask for it. No, I mean, you HAVE to ask for it.
I participated in the OC Restaurant Week menu so that we could get an appetizer and a dessert to share. I'm so sneaky!
Calamari - scrumptious - nothing like Chart House's below.
Small rack of lamb accompanied by spinach and mashed potatoes. If today wasn't Lent, I would totally have gone for the leftovers! And we got the banana torte to go so that we can share with Mr. Pie :) I didn't take a pic but it was delicious!
Wine + tasty treats + 30% off sale + delicious dinners = happy Mrs. Pie!

We're just going to stay in from now on...

Since it's OC Restaurant Week, Mr. Pie and I decided to incorporate date night into it. The Chart House in Newport Beach was only offering $30 for a 3-course meal: appetizer, entree and dessert. We've been to this restaurant before in Malibu and remembered it being delish. So off we went!
We started out with Noblino white wine for Mr. Pie and Korbel champagne brut for me
For appetizers, we shared the calamari and seared ahi tuna. Both were kind of just regular and just ok.
Mr. Pie ordered the prime rib - medium rare for dinner and I got the coconut shrimp. The meat was tender and delicious while the shrimp had great texture but was too sweet.
Dessert was key lime pie and creme brulee. Both were ok as well but I thought the key lime was way too tart.
Overall, for $100 total, it could have been better. We all know Mr. Pie cooks waaaaaaay better than this so I think it might be a while before we head out again! Good thing he doesn't mind cooking ;)

I'm going to use the chair on him...

The Pies had a pretty busy weekend! I didn't have a chance to hop on the computer to blog about it! We stayed in on Friday night, I made stuffed shells with ground beef, cheese and spinach. It was yums and cozy.
Saturday was BabyPink's 1st birthday party. We had a lot of fun watching the birthday girl enjoy herself. We also made butterfly shaped ham sandwiches and grilled cheese shaped fish sandwiches but for some reason, I have no pics of that!
The Birthday Princess with her cake and her haul!

The Pinks :)

BabyPink & her CousinPink

GrandmaPinks galore!

Also, we met Mark Munoz, MommaPink's cousin who is a UFC fighter (let's call him UFCPink - haha)! He's the one I wanted to use the chair on ... hahahaha. Afterwards, we cleaned up and waited for Jimmissa to come over to celebrate J's birthday. We had a banner waiting for him :) We headed out the The Auld Dubliner for dinner and drinks. And also, the place where I accidentally walked into the men's room. Oops. Thank goodness the only thing I saw was someone drying his hands! On Sunday, we headed off in separate directions - Mr. Pie golfed while I shopped with SisterPie and MommaPie. It was a lot of fun and I picked up a couple of sale items from OldLady (really OldNavy but that's how my mom pronounces it). Then at night, for the Oscars, I picked up champagne and Mr. Pie picked up Boiling Crab! Delish - here's my first grub and no other pics since my hands were dirty soon after! Mr. Pie also whipped up bananas fosters again. Sigh - it is so hard to be me!

"It's all blue"

I have no pre-story here. Just a few thanks from my stomach to Mr. Pie's ears. On Monday, Mr. Pie made yummy gorgonzola and green apple soup. He had not made this since he was living a bachelor lifestyle in the LBC :) Delish! And he also grilled chicken breast with pesto and sun dried tomatoes in our sandwich maker. It was perfect for a nice cold rainy night. And then, last night he outdid his gourmet self and made pork tenderloin with a jerk rub, paired with asaparagus and wild brown rice and a refreshing side of chutney. I am making myself hungry again! Forget OC Restaurant Week, I'm just going to stay home!

Don't any of you couples want to be alone?

Valentine's Day was great - I am going to divide everything up between the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. I'll start with the Ugly! Ugly is more juicy anyways.
Ok, so our ugly was dinner. I think that I may have mentioned in a past post that we were going to Mastro's Ocean Club. Since V-day fell on a Saturday and Mr. Pie and I were not together the last time it came around (12 years ago!), we were very excited to make it a date night. Plus we had a $150 gift card. Heh. So we dressed up - Mr. Pie put on a coat and tie, I wore a sparkly dress and worked some heels - it was Prom night! We entered the restaurant - it was gorgeous:
Look dolphins!
It went quickly downhill... We started off with cocktails - a berry martini for me and a sidecar for Mr. Pie
The bread was delicious! Here's my pretzel bread. The cocktails were good too. We were happy Pies. Clap clap! Then we ordered escargot for our appetizer and shared a lobster bisque. These are two of our favorite foods in the world. We adore these foods. We did not adore the Mastro's version. Ugh, blech.
The escargot was sweet. Huh? It was really bad. Even the toast was too soggy with oil.
The lobster bisque was bland. Too milky and the only saving grace were a couple of chunks of lobsters.
At that point, I was almost sorry we ordered entrees. I asked our waiter, MarcoPolo, what the market price for the lobster was. He said $30/lb and they had 3 lb ones that night. I laughed. Seriously? What a horrible markup for them to have on a holiday. Shame on them. Here's our f*#$&'d up meal:
My charred steak - I don't think it's suppose to be BLACK like that.
Our side was lobster mashed potatoes. Ok, that was decent. The potatoes were watery but they got the chunks of lobsters just right.Sorry for the blurry photos, I think my camera was rejecting this meal.
Here's Mr. Pie's seabass:By the way, the entrees came just as plain as they tasted. Mr. Pie's fish was a piece of fish on a huge white plate. He ordered it with their special spices and seasonings. It tasted like no one even spiced it up! I wonder what would have happened if he didn't order it that way.
So we're trying to enjoy this meal and much of it was distracted by the people watching. Apparently, huge groups of people decided to make this a party V-day. Nothing wrong with that, except the 12 person group sitting next to us decided to have a dance party too. It got way too loud and rambunctious. I wanted to slap every single one of them. At one point, it looked as though they were leaving. Everyone got up, they hugged, kissed, blah blah. People put on their coats. Then only 2 of them left and everyone sat down again. We groaned in our seats as they got louder. One guy even yelled out HOOKERS. Yes, yes he did. Mr. Pie wanted to know if any of these couples wanted to be alone. Haha.
Here we are, smiling but crying on the inside.
After we were asked my the maitre'd if we were enjoying out meal, we just nodded towards the loud crowd. He kind of understood but didn't say anything to them. Here's what we got for free because of it. Big whoop. It's their apple butter cake. Mr. Pie loved it, I thought it was ok.
So the food was horrible but the decor and the company (Mr. Pie) was quite lovely. He kept me laughing the whole night as we people watched like mad and thought of many quotes. Plus, we got a cute little box of chocolate truffles.
Today, the restaurant called me to thank me for coming. I just smirked into the phone.

Hi

Hi readers! Sorry I have been lazy about blogging. Today was my day off (thanks Presidents!) and it was my day of leisure. I will blog more tonight about Valentine's dinner.

"Did you drink your butter?"

Today was fantastic (minus the rain but even that was nice...when you're inside). I got to leave work at 2 pm, ran some errands and picked up lobster claws at Costco (they have 2 lb bags for $20). So I got home early, hung out with my dogz and then cleaned up and readied dinner for Mr. Pie and Slim. I hope they like lobster. Yeah, right, they loved it. Mr. Pie bartended with fruity tonic drinks (plum wine + tonic water + lemon zest) while I steamed the claws (they were already cooked, just previously frozen). I also prepared asparagus, drawn butter and mashed potatoes. All of those combined for a delicious Friday night in-dinner.

Dessert was chocolate fondue, accompanied by strawberries and marshmallows.

Heh, I set my marshmallow on fire.We overindulged for sure!
