You get one shoe

The Pies are on vacation in Monterey! It is absolutely gorgeous here. We had a wonderful day one :)

Here is Mr. Pie at the airport with a yummy bloody mary!
When we landed, we met a famous daytime actress - Eva La Rue! She was very sweet.

Before checking into the hotel, we had lunch at the Trailside Cafe and it was delicious! We started off with Lost Coast Downtown Brown beers and a tasty grilled artichoke appetizer. For lunch, I ordered the grilled chicken pesto sandwich with a side salad and Mr. Pie had fish and chips. The food was fantastic! I didn't take any pics of lunch but here's one of the cutest ketchup bottles I've ever seen:

After lunch, we drove around Cannery Row:

and giggled at this:

We also had dessert at Ghiradelli's - chocolate ice cream cones.

After dessert, we stopped at The Plaza Hotel to see if they had dinner recommendations. They did! And the best part? We got to see where I'm having my spa treatments on Saturday. It is definitely the most beautiful spa I've ever seen. The bell hop and valet manager were extra nice and gave us maps of the area. They recommended we drive the 17 mile:
As we were driving around, we noticed a GoodWill. That had an ocean view. Ha! I remarked at how they were also having a 50% off sale. Really? A sale at GoodWill? Mr. Pie said that means, you only get one shoe - hahaha.

Afterwards, we checked into the hotel, and here's the view from our room. Oh Mr. Pie, you sure know how to plan a vaca!

After settling in and splashing at the pool, we readied ourselves for a romantic dinner at the Duck Grill, located in the Plaza Hotel. But right before, we had a wonderful surprise delivered to us by the hotel, wishing us a happy annivesary. It was a tray of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries:

Sadly, no pics of dinner since it was too nice of a restaurant for me to whip out the ol' Kodak. For an appetizer, Mr. Pie and I had the scallops in beet sauce - divine! We asked the server if they were from the Shrute Beet Farm. She got the reference so she was pretty cool. We also had cocktails before - dirty Kettle One martini for me, a Manahattan for him. For dinner entrees, I ordered the filet and lobster (hey, I'm on vaca!) and Mr. Pie had the lamb. Dinner was delicious!

Here's us at dessert next door afterwards:

Mr. Pie had the yummy peach macaroon tart with a mango chenin blanc sorbet and I had a tasty strawberry shortcake:

During dessert, we witnessed the full moon rising. It was amazing!

We're exhausted. Tomorrow, off to Carmel!
